I see them as a people who don’t owe any fascists their souls
Some say meaningless people with unattainable goals
To call their home their home and not have it steamrolled
Because what kind of lives could they live if not under another’s control
Did I know the inner workings of the world as a kid?
When my parents would pretend to know a thing about politics
And I looked to my classmates to somehow feel how Ukrainians did
If they could have the time to think, god forbid
TV hosts say give in to the powers that be encroaching
Because they’re tired of having their little hearts hearting
Reading death of which they claim civilians were already flirting
The man in the sweater’s only option is his country’s converging
And I have family in the world of cold ice who believe all of it
Good people swallowing a story for one politicians benefit
If not that the screens shove content from singers and comedians and they just submit
Never knowing of what truly goes on because the truth and the propaganda don’t mix
I think about the other side of the world and the privilege I’ve gained
To not have my suffering scrolled past, viewers seeing it all the same
Lives of 18 year olds like me being used in a geopolitical game
And an unknowing little kid who will one day bear that weight
(Dedicated to my younger cousin who lives in Russia who once innocently asked me “why doesn’t Biden like Russia?”)
